Contributor(s): Jonathan Renouf [producer] | Jeremy Bristow [producer] | British Broadcasting Corporation.
Material type: materialTypeLabelBookPublisher: [Place of publication not identified]: BBC Worldwide Limited, 2009Description: 3 disc set: color, sound; 4 3/4 in.Subject(s): Global warningAwards: Special Jury Award Jackson Hole 2003.Summary: Meltdown - It's in the media every day. It's blamed for everything from flood to droughts. And if we are to believe the prophets of doom we are rushing headlong towards a global catastrophe. Global warming is the hottest scientific topic of the age. And yet despite all the hype, it is still highly controversial. Presenter Paul Rose, who has spent much of the past 10 years organizing expeditions to examine global warning, looks at the issues. Will it get only a few degrees warmer over the next century or it is the present situation a precursor to runaway global warming and devastating consequences? Warning from the wild - All over the planet, temperature increases are affecting wildlife. Some species are spreading to new areas. For others, climate change extinction. This film draws together the most recent scientific evidence of the effects of the biggest climatic upheaval for 10,000 years. State of the planet - Everywhere you turn there is confusion about the current situation of our planet; with talk of rainforest destruction, global warming, extinction of species, rising sea levels and drought. To coincide with the newmillennium, David Attenborough brings his matter-of-fact clarity to the subject, investigating the latest scientific research to explain the situation in simple terms for the first time. Over the course of three programmes, his quest takes him on a truly global trail, from Kenya to Ecuador, from the Philippines and the Maldives to Easter Island, and from South Africa to California.
