ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to determine the impact of teenage pregnancy on the health of the mother. This is concerned with understanding the effects and/or the significant impact of teenage pregnancy on the health of the mother. The study looked into how the effects and/or significant impact affect their pregnancy. Good health is considered as the most important element in any kind of work, studies and routine in order to lead a happy and satisfactory life. Hence, this study aims to explore and describe the impact of teenage pregnancy on the health of the mother. Specifically, it sought answers to the following sub-problems: 1.How aware are the participants on the effects of teenage pregnancy? 2. What is the significant impact of teenage pregnancy on the health of the mother? 3. How do they manage the problems/discomforts experienced during pregnancy? The research used the following methods for this study: key informant (KI) interview, one-on-one interview, direct observation (DO) and journalizing. The data were analyzed using a thematic framework. This framework sorted out and organized the data gathered according to concepts, themes and categories. The concepts were read and examined thoroughly to come up with a theme. Coding was done and was presented in narrative forms based on systematized themes. This study is in line with Aquinas University's Research Agenda through providing foundations in improving new knowledge and enhancing health care. Based on the study, all participants lack knowledge regarding awareness on the effects of teenage pregnancy. All participants, main denominator for the significant impacts of teenage pregnancy was depression. They manage their problems experienced or discomforts during pregnancy through their own coping mechanisms.
