ABSTRACT

De Leon , “CLIENT’S PERSPECTIVE ON THE NURSING CARE PROVIDED BY NURSING STUDENTS OF AQUINAS UNIVERSITY OF LEGAZPI IN SELECTED AFFILIATE HOSPITALS” (An Undergraduate Thesis, Aquinas University College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Rawis, Legazpi City, 2013)

This study aimed to determine the Client’s Perspective on the Nursing Care provided by Nursing Students of Aquinas University of Legazpi n Selected Affiliate Hospitals. Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions 1. What are the client’s perspectives to Nursing Care provided by Nursing Students of Aquinas University of Legazpi in Selected Affiliate Hospitals in terms of: A.) Knowledge B.) Skills and C.) Attitudes 3. What are the problems encountered by client’s provided by
nursing student to the respondents? 4. What measures may be proposed to enhance the quality of nursing care provided to the respondents?

The researcher employed the survey questionnaire to facilitate data gathering in order to answer the problems that this study would like to investigate on Statistical treatment of data was used such as frequency and percentage for the following resons. 1.) To identify the clients perspectives to nursing care 2.) To identify the problems encountered by client’s provided by nursing student to the respondents 3.) To identify the proposed measures to enchance the quality of nursing care

Based on the data, the client’s perspective on nursing care provided by nursing students of Aquinas University of Legazpi in selected affiliate hospitals in terms of knowledge got the highest frequency of 22 or 26.6% which is Aquinas University of
Legazpi Nursing Students are helping the client to cope with the situation and the lowest 17 or 56.66% which is Aquinas University of Legazpi nursing students show competency in rendering nursing care. The no response got the highest frequency of 13 or 43.3% which shows competency in rendering nursing care and the lowest was a frequency of 8 or 26.6% which is Aquinas University Of Legazpi nursing student helps the patient cope up with the situation

On skills of the Aquinas University of Legazpi Nursing Students in rendering nursing care most of the respondents answered yes with a highest percentage of 25 or 83.33% in terms of performing intervention with the supervision of the clinical instructor
to prevent error or malpractice and the lowest with yes answer is that nursing students of Aquinas University of Legazpi know how to build rapport for productive nursing care with a percentageof 63.33 % or a frequency of 19; the lowest is performs intervention with the supervision of clinical instructor to prevent error of practice with a frequency of 5 or 16.6% On attitude most of the respondents answered yes on the nursing students of Aquinas University of Legazpi are courteous and introduces self to the patient before the intervention with a highest percentage of 26 or 86.66% the lowest got a frequency of 15 or 50 % which is nursing students observe universal precautions and promotes safe environment. The no response has the highest frequency of 15 which is nursing students observe universal precautions and use safe limit with a percentage of 50%; the lowest is 4 or 13.3% which is courteous and introduce to the patient himself before any intervention.

The problems encountered by the clients show that the majority of the nursing students who answered yes got the highest frequency of 29 or 96.66% which shows no appropriate time management and the lowest frequency for those who answered no shows irritability, do not possesses patience, do not have enough energy to perform any nursing intervention and do not respond to any issues and concerns of patients regarding treatment and recovery with a frequency of 25 or 83.33%.

Proposed Measures

Based on the research’s observations and findings, the following were the proposed measures to solve the existing problems:
1. Appropriate time management of Aquinas University of Legazpi in rendering
nursing care to their clients.
2. Interacting with the clients in a courteous and approachable manner.
3. Helping the patient understand and accept the suffering they experience to be able
to cope up with their situation.
4. Performing interventions confidently with knowledge-based practice and with the
guidance of the clinical instructor.
5. Be enthusiastic in performing nursing care and interacting with the client.

Recommendations

Based on the foregoing findings and conclusions, the following recommendations
are formulated:
1. In line with the client’s perspective on the nursing care provided by nursing
students of Aquinas University of Legazpi in selected affiliate hospitals:
1. On knowledge the Aquinas University of Legazpi Nursing Students
should be able to show competency in rendering care.
