ABSTRACT

Breast cancer is the top type of cancer in women both in the developed and the developing worlds. The incidence of breast cancer is increasing in the developing world due to increased life expectancy, increased urbanization and adoption of western l lifestyles. Although some risk reduction might be achieved with prevention, these strategies cannot eliminate the majority of breast cancers that develop in low- and middle-income countries where breast cancer is diagnosed in very late stages. Therefore, early detection in order to improve breast cancer outcome and survival remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control

This study aimed to determine the self care management of breast cancer survivors. Specifically, it sought answers to the following questions: 1) What is the demographic profile of the participants in terms of age, civil status, educational attainment and occupation?, 2) What are the self-care management practices of the breast cancer survivors to improve their physical, emotional, spiritual and social wellbeing after treatment?, 3) What is the extent of self care management of the participants to cope with the problems they experienced after surviving from breast cancer?, 4) What measures can be offered to the participants to ensure them get the care and support they need to have a good quality of life? This study used the qualitative- descriptive type of research. Personal interview with each participant, direct observation and key informant interview was used to gather data. Information gathered with the use of audiotape were coded, categorized and thermalized.
