This study intended to determine the disaster preparedness of the residents of Barangay San Isidro Ilawod, Malilipot, Albay. Specifically it sought answers to the following questions: What are the disaster preparations done by the respondents along typhoon and flood? What are the factors that affect the preparation of the respondents in terms of disaster? What measures may be proposed to enhance the respondents’ preparedness on disaster?

This study employed the descriptive method of research and with the use of questionnaire as its main instrument. As descriptive type of research, it presented the collected data in textual and tabular form. It also provided a detailed presentation of information in order to describe the variables of the study. The data gathered were organized and interpreted with the use of statistical tools such as frequency and percentage. The following findings were drawn: The result of the survey questionnaire, shows that most of the residents in Barangay San Isidro Ilawod, Malilipot, Albay know their priorities during disaster preparation. In terms of typhoon, “charge portable/chargeable lamps/lights, cell phones, etc. while electricity is still available” and “observe the environment such as wind direction, sea/ river condition” got the highest which is 98.9%.

On the other hand, “communicate with relatives with big/strong houses for possible evacuation” got the lowest which is 76.4%. In terms of Flood, “li 10 the made tax information or advise” with the highest which is 85.4% “while move weed killers, insecticides and other chemicals out of reach water” got the lowest which is 40.4%. Residents of Barangay San Isidro Ilawod, Malilipot, Albay encountered the following problems. It reveals that 75.3% agreed that Lack of simulated drills that could help enhance the readiness of the people and least factor affecting the preparation was lack of early warning devices in the barangay by the respondents with 32.6% in terms of typhoon. In terms of flood, lack of simulated drills that could help enhance the readiness of the people and lack of early warning devices in the barangay got the highest with 30.3%. Lack of detailed instructions from authorities on what should be done during floods are least factor affecting the preparation with 27%. List of proposed measures to enhance the respondents’ preparedness on disaster were cited by the researchers.

Based on findings, conclusions were drawn as_ follows: Charge portable/chargeable lamps/lights, cell phones, etc. while electricity is still available and observe the environment such as wind direction, sea/river condition got the highest percentage, which could be indication of awareness among the residents. Likewise, it could be a sign of improvement in terms of disaster preparedness since the typhoon Reming occurred. In terms of flood, move weed killers, insecticides and other chemicals out of reach water got the lowest percentage, which could be indicative that the residents are not knowledgeable about the chemicals. They are not aware of what could lead the chemicals if it were reached by water. Among the factors affecting the disaster preparedness, lack of simulated drills that could help enhance the readiness is the main factor identified in terms of typhoon and flood. Considering the fact that it was in the list activities of the NDRRMP since 2010, as of now it was not been conducted. Also, lack of early warning devices was their main concern, despite the fact Albay achieve the zero casualty goal, and residents was not satisfied. It is conclusive that the barangay needed a warning devices on their own. The Cameza Disaster Preparedness Program has been proposed to enhance the respondents’ preparedness of Barangay San Isidro Ilawod, Malilipot, Albay. Based on findings and conclusion, the following recommendations were drawn: the emergency response team, barangay officials and volunteers must join the training program regarding disaster preparedness; the government and other public sectors must intensify information dissemination; the local government of Malilipot must prepare a short term and long term disaster preparedness program for the benefits of the residents; the government must be accessible to aid the residents’ needs and concerns.
